WE ARE YOUR ENERGY SAVING EXPERTS.
Home Energy Evaluation
As a locally renowned insulation company, our home energy evaluation provides information on the critical areas of energy loss: air leakage and insufficient insulation. Air leakage is evaluated with a blower door test and various other methods, and insulation amounts are assessed with an attic inspection and a thermal camera for areas behind drywall that can’t be visually inspected.
Blown-In Insulation
Blown-in Insulation is one of the most common and economical forms of insulation in most attics. It is typically made from loose-fill fiberglass or cellulose compressed into a bag and requires a particular machine to fluff up the insulation and blow it into place.
Spray Foam Insulation
Spray Foam insulation is a relatively new and energy-efficient type of plastic insulation. It is applied by trained insulation installers with specialized equipment. In the process, two chemical components are sprayed in place and react together to form a foam that fills and seals the area to be insulated.
Batt Insulation
Batt Insulation is a thick blanket of insulation typically made from fiberglass. It comes in thicknesses and widths to match the thickness and spacing of the wall or ceiling joists. It is easy to use as it needs no special equipment; however, it requires precise installation by house insulation contractors to perform well.
Insulation Removal
If insulation has become contaminated from rodent infestation or water damage, it may need to be removed. Experts at May Energy Solutions, a professional contractor for insulation, use specialized vacuum equipment and disposal bags made for insulation removal.
Air Sealing
Air sealing blocks the common paths where air leaks around plumbing and electrical penetrations in a home’s walls, ceiling, and attic. Canned expanding foam or caulk is often used to fill the gaps that allow air leakage into or out of your home.
Top Benefits from Upgrading Home Insulation
Save Money with Lower Energy Bills
Sealing air leaks and adding insulation can save the average Texas homeowner over 20% annually on energy bills – Insulation Industry Opportunity Study, ICF, 25 August 2022
Home is More Comfortable
Insulation and air sealing combine to improve temperature distribution, eliminating hot spots and cold drafts, resulting in a more even temperature throughout your home.
Reduced Outside Noises
Insulation acts as a noise reducer by preventing sound waves from passing through. You will hear less noise from dogs, birds, storms, traffic, etc. in a properly insulated home.
Helps the Environment
By reducing energy usage, insulation benefits the environment in the form of reduced emissions of pollutants such as carbon dioxide, sulfur oxide and nitrogen oxide, among others. According to the EPA, the #1 way to reduce your energy usage in your home is through better insulation.
Prepared for Extreme Weather
Over the last few years in south central Texas, we’ve experienced unusual extremes in both hot summers and cold winters. This is when energy bills soar unless your home is properly sealed and insulated. In situations of extreme weather and power outages, a well-insulated home will retain its internal temperature far longer than a poorly insulated home.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does insulation work?
Insulation slows the transfer of heat to and from a house, so the heating and cooling system runs less often. Click here for more information.
What does "R-Value" mean?
How much money can insulation save me?
We utilize a home energy calculator from the U.S. Department of Energy that takes into account how much insulation is already in the house, how much air leaks out of the house, and how well-sealed the doors and windows are. Also, we factor in local energy costs to estimate how much energy and money could be saved by adding more insulation. Click here for the Home Energy Calculator.
Why do we recommend cellulose insulation?
Cellulose has many advantages over other types of insulation: energy efficiency, environmental benefits, pest resistance, flame resistance, mold resistance, and moisture balancing.
1) High Coverage – When properly installed, cellulose insulation typically performs better because it completely surrounds the wires, pipes, and outlet boxes that are typically found in house walls.
2) Air Flow Resistance – Cellulose typically performs better because of its resistance to air flow. We can show you a demonstration of how resistance to air-flow cellulose insulation has upon request.
3) Eco-Friendly – Cellulose is almost entirely made from recycled paper. It is generally considered the greenest insulation in terms of the lower amounts of energy and greenhouse gases generated in its production.
4) Safe for Humans and Pets – Cellulose insulation is treated with borate which is non-toxic to humans and pets but is toxic to insects. Also, it is not an attractive nesting material for rodents or pests.
5) Fire and Mold Resistance – Borate treatment makes cellulose insulation fire resistant and mold resistant.
6) Moisture Balancing – Cellulose has moisture balancing capabilities not provided by most other types of insulation. Humidity can be absorbed and released by cellulose insulation instead of flowing directly into or out of the house.
What is a home energy evaluation? How does it help me?
Air leakage accounts for a large part of the energy lost from a house. During a home energy evaluation a fan blows air into the house. Then technicians can evaluate how much air is leaking from the house. Technicians will also test the heating and air conditioning. systems. Lastly, technicians will use a thermal imaging camera to evaluate the existing insulation in the walls and attic.
After the home energy evaluation is completed, our technicians will provide homeowners with recommendations to improve the insulation and energy efficiency of their house.
Are May Energy Solution's technicians well-trained and qualified?
Yes. Our technicians are certified by the Building Performance Institute in Building Analysis, Air Filtration and Duct Leakage to perform home energy evaluations.
